Sticker Auto

A trading card where the autograph is on a sticker affixed to the card.

A sticker auto is a trading card where the player's autograph appears on a small sticker that has been affixed to the card during the manufacturing process. This is in contrast to on-card autos, where the player signs directly on the card itself.

Card manufacturers use sticker autos when it's logistically difficult to have players sign directly on cards — for example, when players are unavailable during the card production timeline or when producing multiple products simultaneously.

Sticker autos are generally worth 20-50% less than on-card autos of the same player and product. Collectors prefer on-card autos because they feel more authentic, look more visually integrated, and demonstrate that the player actually handled the card.

You can identify a sticker auto by looking for a small, slightly raised rectangular area on the card where the signature appears. The sticker may have slightly different paper texture or gloss compared to the surrounding card surface.

Despite the price discount, sticker autos are still genuine hand-signed autographs. They are popular with budget-conscious collectors and can be good value, especially for star players where on-card versions carry significant premiums.
