Before your first scan
Start with a photo worth reviewing.
Choose the kind of piece for a quick preparation checklist. These are photo tips, not an assessment of your item. No image is uploaded here.
Photo or flat item
Keep the full signature in frame.
- Photograph straight on and keep the signature in focus.
- Use even light; move the light or camera to reduce glare.
- Keep a whole-item photo for your records, even when submitting a signature close-up.
Signed card
Keep the card and the signature distinct.
- Avoid glare from a sleeve or slab without risking damage to the card.
- Keep front and back photos in your records, including any label.
- Note the year, set and card number separately. Signature review is not card grading.
Ball, jersey or curved item
Show the ink without changing its shape.
- Use an angle that keeps the signature visible without stretching the image.
- Keep seams, texture and relevant markings visible where possible.
- Use your original photo rather than an enhanced image that changes the strokes.

What does this autograph checker do?
101 Pre-Screen reviews a submitted signature image for preliminary visual observations. It helps organize questions for further research; a confident-looking result is not proof that a physical item is genuine.
Can AI authenticate an autograph or issue a COA?
This tool does not provide professional authentication or a certificate of authenticity. A photo cannot establish every property of a physical signature or its history. Compare supporting information and consider an appropriate professional service.
Do I need Gold or Emerald to start?
No. You can try one guest scan without an account, subject to availability. Free accounts include a monthly Pre-Screen allowance; the membership page shows Gold and Emerald allowances. Starting here does not begin a paid subscription or trial.
Can it identify a completely unknown signature?
The member scanner asks for the claimed signer's name. Do not invent a name to obtain a confident-looking answer. Use available context and further research when the signer is unknown; identification is not guaranteed.
Can I use this for an autographed sports card?
Yes, for a preliminary review of the signature photo. Record the card's year, set, number and any variation separately. Card grade, market value and autograph authenticity are different questions.
What should I prepare before submitting?
Have a clear original photograph, the claimed signer and any useful item context ready. Avoid sending other people's private documents or payment details. Review the app's privacy information and the limitations before submitting.
