Beckett authentication: cert lookup, autograph grading and fees

Check current service availability first

Reviewed September 27, 2026: Beckett's official maintenance notice says new Beckett Authentication Services submissions are temporarily unavailable while existing received orders continue to be processed. The same notice discusses Express card grading; do not assume that means new autograph-authentication submissions are open.

We could not confirm a working live certificate lookup during this review. An unavailable lookup is not an authenticity verdict. Recheck the official notice and contact Beckett through its official support options before relying on a submission route or a deadline. Availability may change after this review.

How to check a Beckett certificate number

Use the official verification link below rather than a seller-supplied imitation page. Enter the certification number exactly as printed, then compare all returned details with the physical item, label and any letter. Do not publish your account credentials or payment information to obtain a certificate check.

A database record can refer to a different physical item. Ask for clear photographs of the whole item, the signature and the label, and compare identifying details. When a record cannot be found, check your entry and ask the issuer about the discrepancy; do not label an item genuine or fake from that single result alone.

Authentication, autograph grading and card grading answer different questions

Autograph authentication evaluates whether a signature is considered genuine. An autograph grade concerns the signature's quality, while card grading concerns the card's condition. Check the exact service and label instead of treating every Beckett-branded item as having received all three services.

A photo-only opinion is also different from full authentication. Before ordering any review, establish what will be examined, what result or documentation you receive, and what remains unverified. Our AI-assisted 101 Pre-Screen is not a Beckett service and is not a certificate of authenticity.

PSA vs JSA: which fits your item

Plan the full submission cost, not an advertised starting price

Once the service you need is available, get a current quote for the exact signer, item and number of signatures. Ask about documentation, encapsulation or grading options, shipping, insurance and any additional charges. A quote for one signature on one item may not apply to a multi-signed piece.

Use the free submission-budget calculator with your entered quotes. Leave an unconfirmed fee unknown, keep per-item charges separate from order charges, and compare the total with the collecting outcome you need. The calculator does not submit items to Beckett or take payment for its services.

Keep a record of what you actually checked

Record the date, official source, certificate details you reviewed and any unresolved question. Distinguish a seller's claim from something you personally checked. Keep the original documents and photographs rather than replacing them with a brief summary.

You can add a private collection record in Autographs 101 and enter the details yourself. Paid memberships add collecting tools and allowances, not a professional authentication opinion, a resale guarantee or priority at Beckett.

Frequently asked questions

Is Beckett Authentication taking new autograph submissions?

When we reviewed it on September 27, 2026, Beckett's official notice said new Beckett Authentication Services submissions were temporarily paused while orders already received were still being processed. Check Beckett's current notice before you pay or ship anything.

How do I look up a Beckett certificate number?

Use Beckett's official verification page, type the number exactly as printed and compare every returned detail with the item, label and letter in front of you. A matching number is one check, not proof that this exact item is the one on file.

What is Beckett autograph grading?

An autograph grade rates the signature's quality on a 1–10 scale. It is a separate question from whether the signature is genuine, and separate again from the card's condition grade, so read the label to see which services were actually done.

Is Beckett better than PSA or JSA?

No one company is best for every piece. Compare the exact service, current availability, total cost and what your likely buyer or marketplace accepts for that signer and item.

Before-you-buy review

Keep the questions, missing evidence and your own purchase limits in one place.

  1. Record the exact item, claimed signer and version being offered.
  2. Request whole-item photos, a sharp signature close-up and condition details.
  3. Separate the seller's claims from supporting signing or acquisition records.
  4. Record the price, shipping, fees and your own maximum total budget.
  5. Write down unresolved questions before deciding whether to proceed.
Certificate research file

Keep the claimed issuer, item comparison and unresolved mismatches together.

  1. Identify the claimed issuer from the label or certificate.
  2. Find the issuer's official lookup or support channel independently.
  3. Compare the issuer record, item description, label and actual piece.
  4. Record mismatches or missing information without treating a number match as authentication.
  5. Keep your questions and any response date for the next review.
Comparable-sales research

Build a repeatable record of relevant sold examples instead of relying on asking prices.

  1. Define the exact item type, signer, version and condition you are researching.
  2. Record a completed sale's source, date, currency and available price details.
  3. Note differences in authentication, inscriptions, condition and item type.
  4. Keep asking prices and unconfirmed sales separate from completed-sale evidence.
  5. Describe the limits of your comparison; do not turn a few examples into a guaranteed value.
Collection documentation plan

Organize a piece's history and the records you still need to gather.

  1. Describe a piece you own and its identifying details.
  2. List the photos, receipts and supporting records you have.
  3. Separate documented acquisition history from recollection or seller claims.
  4. Record condition observations and where supporting files are kept.
  5. Choose what to add to your private Vault after reviewing the information.
