SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope)

An envelope included with TTM autograph requests for return mailing.

SASE stands for Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope — a pre-stamped return envelope that you include when sending an autograph request through the mail (TTM). The SASE makes it easy for the recipient to mail your signed item back without any cost or effort on their part.

Preparing a proper SASE is essential for TTM success. Use an envelope large enough to fit your item (typically a 6x9" or 9x12" envelope for photos), apply sufficient postage for the weight of the return contents, and clearly write your return address.

For standard 8x10 photos, many collectors use a 9x12" manila envelope as the SASE with cardboard backing to prevent bending during return shipping. Proper packaging shows respect for the signer and protects your item during transit.

Some TTM collectors also include a brief, personalized letter explaining who they are, why they admire the person, and what items they've enclosed for signing. A thoughtful letter can increase your chances of getting a return, especially from athletes who receive high volumes of requests.

Track your SASE shipments using USPS Informed Delivery or certified mail when sending higher-value items. Keep a log of what you sent, when you sent it, and to whom — this helps you track success rates and follow up on outstanding requests.
